EASTERN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS RAKE LEAVES FOR HAITI MISSIONS TRIP
St. Davids, PA, October 29, 2009: Eastern University and Beyond Borders are sending a team of eight students on a transformational travel mission trip to Haiti in January, 2010. As part of their fundraising for this trip, the students will be raking leaves and doing other yard work at homes in our community for donations. If you'd like to hire some of these students, contact Leah Graeff (leahgraeff@gmail.com).
Through its Transformational Travel program, Beyond Borders organizes reflective trips to Haiti for small groups from churches, colleges, and community organizations, opening opportunities for authentic dialogue between visitors and their Haitian hosts. These journeys offer a life-changing chance to see the world from the other side of the global economic divide and the challenge to live in authentic solidarity with those the world has left behind. Trips such as this one are a natural outcome of Eastern University's mission of faith, reason and justice.
Beyond Borders got its start in 1993 as a spin-off of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, founded by Dr. Tony Campolo, professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University. Dr. Campolo is a Christian speaker and author widely known for his passionate call for Christians to take seriously Christ's demand that we seek justice for the poor and liberation for the oppressed.
