M42: The Great Orion Nebula is the brightest area of a gas cloud that includes M78, M43, and the Horsehead nebula. The M42 region is yet another starbirth region, with the brightest portion of the nebula excited by the formation of these new stars. The round bright portion in the upper left of the image is M43. Combination of 2 LRGB images (6-7 exposures per filter: long exposure-60sec, short exposure-10sec, combined using layer mask techniques) |
